A standard back-to-back heat pump installation refers to a specific type of installation for split system heat pumps or air conditioning units. The two main components are the following:

  • Indoor Unit: A wall-mounted indoor unit (also known as the head unit) installed inside the room.
  • Outdoor Unit: An outdoor compressor unit located directly opposite the indoor unit. The outdoor unit is mounted on a hard leveled surface outside the building. 

The indoor and outdoor units are then placed directly behind each other on a single-story dwelling.
